Santorini has been a fixture on Elgin Street since the early 2010s, a lower-ground room done out in whitewash, sky-blue banquettes and Cycladic knick-knacks. It belongs to the small Santorini Group run by Vasili Stamatis, and it now carries the name of Greek-born chef Panos, who joined the group after two decades cooking in Asia.
The kitchen sticks to grilled meat and taverna staples. Order a souvlaki platter of grilled chicken, beef or lamb skewers with pita and tzatziki, or Mama Helen's soutzoukakia, meatballs simmered in tomato sauce. Moussaka, spanakopita, dolmades and grilled octopus round out the list, and pita wraps are discounted during the 2pm–6pm happy hour.
It suits after-work drinks, casual dates and small groups who want generous plates without fuss; seating is snug, so phone ahead at weekends; the team says telephone bookings are the surest route. The sister venue, Santorini Steakhouse by Panos on Queen's Road East in Wan Chai, pairs dry-aged steaks with Greek dips and has a large terrace.
