Yialos, the Greek word for shore, opened on Jalan Cikatomas in Senopati in 2023 billing itself as the first Greek-Mediterranean restaurant in Senopati. Chef and owner Bobby Handoko built the menu from years of cooking at home, inspired by Greek food he ate as a student in Melbourne. The room is warm and busy, with a proper bar area and music in the evenings.
The grill sets the pace. The meat platter, a mixed grill for sharing, is the signature, alongside lamb souvlaki, lamb chops (paidakia) and a lamb gyros platter. Grilled octopus is the best seafood order, and the Athenian lobster pasta is a popular splurge. Start with halloumi saganaki, spanakopita and pita with tzatziki, then finish with baklava or loukoumades.
It suits friends, dates and groups who want a lively night out, and it opens at 8am from Friday to Sunday. Cocktails and wine are served. Book through Chope at busy times. The larger sister restaurant, Yialos Taverna in Menteng, adds a seafood station and private rooms.
