Faros, Greek for lighthouse, occupies a house on Lorong Yap Kwan Seng a short walk from KLCC. It was set up by the owner of the Italian restaurant Sassorosso, and the kitchen is run by a chef from Crete. Inside, white statues and painted Greek friezes set the tone; most tables are on a covered garden terrace with ceiling fans.
Start with homemade pita and the dips, taramosalata, Santorini fava and a Cretan melitzanosalata, then ntakos, spanakopita or a Faros mixed meze to share. From the grill come lamb paidakia with lemon potatoes, chicken or lamb souvlaki, gyros and whole seabass. Slow-cooked dishes include papoutsaki, pastitsio, giouvetsi with orzo, stifado and lamb kleftiko, and galaktoboureko or baklava finish things off.
The terrace and private dining rooms suit birthdays, work dinners and family get-togethers, and bookings are recommended at weekends. It opens daily from noon to 11pm, takes dietary requests when you book, and a wine list is offered.
