Aesops made its name in Silom as a loud, social Greek restaurant where plate smashing was part of the evening. It has since moved to the 25th floor of the Column Bangkok Hotel on Sukhumvit 16. The new room nods to Athens, with marble, columns, statues and a blossom-covered bar, and an open terrace looks over Benjakitti Park. It was listed in the Michelin Guide Bangkok in earlier editions.
Start with the Greek dips tower or flaming saganaki cheese, flambéed at the table, then wagyu beef souvlakia and grilled octopus. Among the mains, the 12-hour lamb kleftiko, the chicken gyros plate and a wagyu beef-cheek moussaka stand out. Spit-roasted kontosouvli and a lamb shoulder rack, which must be ordered in advance, suit bigger tables. Baklava and galaktoboureko round things off.
Come for birthdays, hen nights and company dinners rather than a quiet meal. Live acts, DJs and fire shows run from about 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Expect around THB 2,000 a head with drinks. The kitchen closes at 10:30pm, and under-16s are not admitted after 8:30pm at weekends.
