AVRA has been on Soi Sukhumvit 35 since 2016. It is a family-owned room with blue shutters, gingham tablecloths and dried herbs hanging from the ceiling. The family opened it because they could not find the food of home in Bangkok, so the menu pairs Greek classics with Georgian and Slavic dishes, all made from scratch.
Stick to the Greek half and you eat well. Start with taramasalata, kopanisti and tzatziki, then kalamarakia, gavros marinatos and dolmadakia. Next come feta saganaki in phyllo with pepper honey, a proper moussakas, lamb keftedes or lavraki baked with olives. From the charcoal grill there are paidakia lamb chops, souvlaki and slow-cooked xtapodi. Khachapuri and khinkali are there if the table wants a detour.
It suits a relaxed dinner with friends or a weekend lunch, and there is a weekday lunch set. There is no parking at the restaurant, so park at EmQuartier and walk. Book online or by phone. Its sister restaurant ARGO, on Sukhumvit 8, leans more towards Georgian food.
Hours and prices change, so please confirm with the restaurant before you go.
