The Greek Tavern opened in Kamala in December 2013 and is still run as a family business by its Greek owners. The idea is a small piece of Greece by the beach: a simple dining room with string lights and greenery, and food cooked the way it would be at home. The kitchen makes its own bread, yoghurt and desserts every day.
Order a spread of meze to start, such as tzatziki, skordalia and shrimp saganaki, then share souvlaki in pita, moussaka or a stuffed aubergine. A whole roast lamb can be ordered a couple of days ahead for a group. Leave room for loukoumades or the orange pie. As in any proper taverna, retsina and ouzo are on the drinks list.
It suits families and anyone wanting honest home cooking rather than a scene. Booking ahead is wise in high season, by phone or email. Note that it is closed on Wednesdays.
